On the road and on the 40-date Brotherhood of Rock tour with Kevin Cronin and Don Felder, rock legends Styx recently pulled up to the Toyota Pavilion at Concord, playing their classic The Grand Illusion in its entirety to a packed house on a breezy yet warm Friday evening. With a setlist full of hits, the crowd definitely was not disappointed.

Opening the set with the title track from their triple platinum plus record, Styx hit the stage running. With a massive LED screen behind them and plenty of lighting, the band rolled through the record with energy to spare. The entire band made it a point to interact with their fans during their set, with long time members Tommy Shaw and J.Y. Young, as well as guitarist Will Evankovich and bassist Terry Gowan coming together at the center of the stage. Highlights from the first set included “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man),” “Man in the Wilderness,” and, of course, “Come Sail Away.” By the time they wrapped up the first set with “The Grand Finale,” the fans were still hungry for more.

After a brief break, the band returned to the stage and delivered more of their rock anthems, including “Too Much Time on My Hands,” “The Best of Times,” and “Blue Collar Man.” They weren’t done yet though, and by the time they wrapped up the evening with “Mr. Roboto,” and “Renegade,” the band proved that this may be one of the biggest tours of the summer.

Supporting Styx on this tour is former REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin, who was playing a classic record in its entirety as well. From the opening notes of “Don’t Let Him Go” to the closing of “I Wish You Were There,” fans were treated to the REO Hi Infidelity record from front to back. Kevin didn’t stop there though, playing a handful of other REO Speedwagon hits, including “Time For Me To Fly,” “Roll With the Changes,” and of course “Can’t Fight This Feeling.”

Opening the show on this tour is former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, who wrote some of the band’s biggest songs. With a setlist that included “One of These Nights,” “Life in the Fast Lane,” and “Hotel California,” (complete with double neck guitar) Don is the perfect artist to make sure the fans get to the venue early.
