After releasing their eleventh studio album Good God / Baad Man (Nuclear Blast) earlier this year, long time Sludge/Metal/Punk stalwarts Corrosion of Conformity hit a packed to the rafters Great American Hall in San Francisco earlier this week and delivered a blistering set that showed why the band remains one of heavy music’s most respected bands. Blending Southern rock swagger and sludge metal heaviness, the band were firing on all cylinders, with a setlist that had something for everyone.

Opening their set with “Asleep on the Killing Floor” from the new record, COC. engulfed the room in crushing guitar riffs from the word go. Original member and guitarist Woody Weatherman, along with frontman Pepper Keenan laid the groundwork for an evening of heavy riffs, while bassist Bobby Landgraf and new drummer Nick Shabatura kept everything as thunderous as humanly possible.

The setlist was a strong mix of both newer material and Pepper era classics, and highlights included “Lose Yourself,” “Who’s Got the Fire,” and “Gimme Some More,” all performed with the intensity, energy, and swagger that the band has always had, regardless of the members. Pepper Keenan’s gritty vocals carried the same attitude that has defined the band’s sound for decades, while his guitar riffs added to the intensity.

Of course no COC set would be complete without the classics, and the band did not disappoint, playing “Albatross”  and “Vote with a Bullet” before wrapping up their set with “Clean My Wounds.”

Crobot

Support on this leg of the tour comes from Whores and Crobot, both of which proved to be the perfect bands to get the crowd primed for the headliners.
