Earlier this year Metric, Broken Social Scene, and Stars announced the All the Feelings Tour, which sees the longtime friends crossing the country for an 18-date trek. The tour pulled up at the Masonic for two shows recently, and brought the fans a double dose of both music and fun.

Metric returned to the Bay Area with a precision that felt both practiced and fresh. From the opening bars of “Victim of Luck,” the band had the entire venue on its feet. Emily Haines’s voice cut through the mix with crystalline clarity, alternately intimate and commanding, while Jimmy Shaw’s guitar lines braided tightly with Josh Winstead’s propulsive bass. Drummer Joules Scott-Key’s steady, inventive drumming kept the momentum taut without ever crowding the melodies.

The setlist was a mix of both new and old, offering something for everyone in attendance. Early highlights included a shimmering rendition of “Youth Without Youth” with synth and distorted guitar coming to a crescendo that sent the crowd into collective euphoria. Other highlights from the set included “Time Is A Bomb,” “Breathing Underwater, and “Leave You on a High.”

Perhaps the highpoint of the evening was when the band were joined onstage by Broken Social Scene for “Loyal.”

By the encore, Metric had transformed the room into an all out dance party.. Closing with an electrified “Help I’m Alive,” and then “Black Sheep” they left the crowd buzzing, a reminder that their blend of indie-rock craft and electronic sheen remains distinct and vital. This concert confirmed Metric as a band are just as ambitious, heartfelt, and undeniably alive as always.
