Industrial pioneers KMFDM announced their Let Go Tour earlier this year, which includes a string of twenty US dates across the country supporting their 23rd studio album Let Go, which was released on February 2nd. The band pulled up to the historic Fillmore Auditorium recently, tearing through a twenty two song setlist before a packed room. Judging from the reaction of the fans, KMFDM still knows how to put on a show.
Kicking off their set with “All 4 1” from their Hyena record, the band were firing on all cylinders right out of the gate. Frontman and founding member Sascha Konietzko left his synth stand to pace the stage, while longtime vocalist Lucia Cifarelli did the same. Together with drummer Andy Selway and guitarist Andee Blacksugar, KMFDM tore through a career-spanning setlist, keeping the fans on their feet and moving to the music while being splashed with color lights and strobes which were pulsating from the drum rig on stage.
Highlights from the set included ‘Naive,” ‘Go to Hell,” and “Freak Flag.” The band also represented the new record, playing “Turn the Light On,” “Let Go,” “Airhead,” and “Push!,” all of which sounded like classic KMFDM.
After wrapping up their set with the staple “A Drug Against War,” the band returned for a five song encore, highlighted by “Megalomaniac” and the quintessential “Godlike.”
By the time it was all said and done, KMFDM more than showed that they are still as relevant as they were in the early Wax Trax! days, and still have plenty of fuel left in the tank.
