Combining metal and hip hop isn’t exactly a new concept — 1993’s “Slam” by rappers Onyx saw a metal remix collab with Biohazard that helped boost its sales, the early 2000s were some of the most successful for nu-metal acts like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, and Florida’s Ghostemane formally released his fresh flavor of trap metal in 2015 with a pair of successful satanically-charged albums. So, what’s next?
Enter City Morgue — the duo of New York rappers ZillaKami and SosMula. They made a lot of noise just three years ago with a support slot on Denzel Curry’s Ta13oo tour and have shown no signs of slowing down since. Their blend of ridiculously abrasive production that twists Industrial noise, Heavy Metal, and Hardcore Punk with aggressive rap vocals turn into something not just listenable, but catchy and moshpit-inducing, striking a chord with a wide audience.
Monster Energy’s long-running Outbreak Tour brings the project to San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom this October 14th for what is sure to be a frantic and heavy performance with support from openers Kuttem Reese, DRAIN, and NYCL Kai.
